Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les OBRY/LHUILLIER/ULRICH

Les OBRY

ou encore ULRIG, ULRICH, ULLRIC, HUILLIER, LHUILLIER descendent de Marx Obry né vers 1580. Cette famille bien représentée dans les pieds terriers de Hestroff semble être aussi ancienne que les Wagner/Charon. En 1683 décède Dominique, né vers 1608, père de Hugo à ce moment là maire de Hestroff. Aucune descendance connue au 21e siècle sur Hestroff. Le nom a périclité rapidement dès la fin du 18e.

Au fur et à mesure des alliances avec les autochtones, montent sur les planches les LIZER, les SPRINGER, les HERMANN, des familles tyroliennes déjà en place avant 1680.

Les LIZER/ LESER

Les Liser, Lizer ou Leser du Tyrol, dont le patronyme n'a pas été pérennisé sur Hestroff, seraient venus en même temps que les Hackspill. D'abord à Holving (est mosellan), où ils se sont installés pour en reconstruire l'église avec leurs cousins Hackspill, puis à Hestroff où nous rencontrons Jean Wilhelm né vers 1669, Jean Jacques né vers 1669, Barthélémy, maître couvreur, tous cousins ou frères de Maurice LESER de Holving.

Le patronyme disparaît de Hestroff dès la fin du 18e. Les descendants en ce début du 21e se trouvent au sein des familles COLBUS, BAUSCH, BOTTER, HACKSPILL, KETZINGER et NADé toutes branches confondues.

Les SPRINGER

Jean Henry Springer se marie en 1694 à l'âge de 32 ans avec Marie-Catherine Nadé, âgée seulement de 14 ans. Sont témoins au mariage les beaux-pères respectifs Nicolas et Hugo.
Les Springer ou Sprenger semblent être eux aussi d'origine tyrolienne au vu de leurs affinités et alliances avec les autres tyroliens en place à Hestroff fin du 17e. Le premier Springer, Jean Henry ou Hugues, fut tonnelier.

Les derniers Springer connus à Hestroff étaient Adam et Joséphine (Anda & Phiné), tous deux restés célibataires. Leur maison située dans l'impasse m'Harainville fut détruite en 1939 par l'armée française qui y installa un bunker. Frère et soeur furent relogés par la commune après 1945. Ils moururent, indigents, à l’hospice Saint-Nicolas de Metz.

Les HERMANN

Aussi appelés GERMAN, il n'y a guère que les familles COLBUS, KLEIN et les NAdé, branches Muller, de Boni et Pick, qui peuvent revendiquer leur appartenance à cette lignée aussi tyrolienne.
On sait peu de choses sur les Hermann. Le plus ancien était maçon à l'instar des premiers Hackspill. Jean Hermann, époux d’Elisabeth NADé, mourut dans la plus grande pauvreté.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les ROBERT

Les ROBERT

Dominique ROBERT est cité en 1683 beau-frère de Ignace ALEXANDRE alors curé de Hestroff et archiprêtre de Kédange. Il demeure avec son épouse Marie ALEXANDRE au presbytère depuis 1680. Neuf enfants connus dont Jean, avocat au Parlement de Metz, Jean-François, notaire royal, baillage de Thionville et Ignace, marchand cirier à Thionville.

Les ROBERT semblent être originaires de Budange, paroisse de Kédange. Probablement un autre frère de Dominique, Thimothée, dont l'épouse est une HENNEQUIN de Kédange, deviendra maître d'école à Hestroff en 1696 quand Claude TÜPPENWEILLER quitta cette fonction. Thimothée meurt en 1726 à Metz où il s’était rendu pour se soigner. Son grand ami, Damien HENWEILLER, le curé de Hestroff, écrira dans les registres paroissiaux que « Le onzième juin de l'année 1726 est décédé Thimothée ROBERT, régent d'école à Hestroff depuis trente ans, âgé de cinquante ans munis des sacrements de la Sainte Eglise, et cela dans l'hôpital Saint-Georges où il est allé se faire traitter d'une fâcheuse incommodité qui luy était survenue à une jambe. Il y est mort et enterré. Lequel a donné et légué par testament à l'église de Hestroff 14 écus pour avoir une messe annuelle au mois de novembre. La moitié de la rente sera pour Monsieur le Curé et l'autre pour la fabrique».

Son fils François-Adam, né à Hestroff en mai 1702, se marie et meurt dans sa paroisse d’origine en 1776. Il y fut notamment maître d’école de 1740 à 1749 où il cotoyait le nouveau curé de la paroisse Jean Antoine MÜLLER. Son épouse Marie GIRARDIN, originaire de Vaudreching, lui donna 8 enfants, dont Mathias ou Mathieu qui serait né à Faulquement en 1731. Math. ROBERT de HESSELN fut annobli par Louis XV, dont il est devenu le géographe. Professeur d’allemand à Paris à l'Ecole royale militaire, de HESSELN est l’auteur du premier Dictionnaire universel de la France en 1771. En 1786, il publia un système de quadrillage de la France hiérarchisé en carrés emboîtés par groupes de 9 qui servit pour réaliser les 83 premiers départements français sous la Révolution. Il réalisa bien d'autres études dont la liste serait fastidieuse.

En 1773, l’abbé Müller écrira dans les registres paroissiaux :

« Monsieur Robert de Hesseln, né du Sieur François Adam Robert, ancien maître d'école de cette paroisse, et de Marie Girardin son épouse, actuellement demeurant et établi à Paris, ci devant Professeur en langue allemande et Inspecteur de Messieurs les élèves de l'Ecole Royale militaire de Paris et auteur du dictionnaire universel de France, se sentant disposé de contribuer à augmenter…qui consistait en une belle et bonne orgue proportionnée à l'église, mais qu'il ne nous la ferait tenir que préalablement il en soit informé par moi Curé, soussigné, avec les Paroissiens nous l'acceptassions en conséquence.
J'ai requis le consentement de la saine partie de cette Communauté et l'ayant obtenu, j'ai demandé audit Robert, en luy témoignant notre juste reconnaissance, que nous souhaitons transmettre à tous nos successeurs pour un don aussi précieux que nous certifions avoir reçu de Paris dudit Bienfaiteur en offrant nos voeux au Seigneur pour son bien-être et en mettant notre confiance en Dieu, qui comme nous (l') espérons fournira les moyens à cette communauté pour l'entretien de cet orgue et le payement d'un organiste»
A Hestroff ce dix sept juin mille sept cent soixante treize.
A. Müller, curé de Hestroff et archiprêtre de Kédange.

« La dite orgue a été montée et mise d'accord par le Sieur Barthélémy Chevreux (Barthélémy Chevreux est admodiateur de l’abbaye de Bouzonville, organiste. Il a épousé Catherine ROBERT à Château-Rouge le 18 mai 1759), facteur d'orgue demeurant à Bouzonville, et a été touchée pour la première fois à la fête de la Pentecôte de l'an 1772 et depuis continue d'être touchée par Jean Antoine fils de Noêl Kieffer, maître d'école de cette paroisse, qui a appris à la toucher chez le vénérable Bernard, Maître organiste à Villers-Bettnach".

Le dernier Robert décède en 1776. Aucune descendance sur Hestroff. François-Adam Robert n’a même pas été inhumé dans l’église où trônent les orgues offertes par son fils..., ce privilège étant définitivement aboli.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les DALSTEIN

Louis d'ALSTEN ou DALSTEIN, laboureur, fils de Pierre, maire de Piblange, petit-fils de Sieur Hugo Dalstein (descendant de Lucrèce Borgia ?), jouissant de franchises en 1626, épouse fin 1684 Catherine CORDONNIER, veuve de Benedikt HACKSPILL le tyrolien, qui lui donnera quatre enfants.

10 ans plus tard, il épousera en secondes noces Anne ZORN dont il aura 3 enfants. Louis, cité maire foncier de Hestroff et grand censier de l'abbaye de Villers-Bettnach, possède beaucoup de terres sur les bans de Piblange et de Hestroff. Aucun descendant sur Hestroff ne porte son nom, mais sa descendance est si nombreuse qu'il serait fastidieux de citer tout le village.

Notons que Louis Dalstein et sa seconde épouse sont enterrés dans l'église paroissiale "devant le banc de communion". Louis acheta ce privilège "pour marque de sa piété et de sa dévotion" et "a donné 499 francs barrois à l'église paroissiale ... à charge que le Sr Curé chante quatre messes pour le soulagement de son âme chaque année à savoir une à chaque quatre temps ... et fondé pour la rétribution desdites messes huit frans au Sr Curé, quatre au marguillier et les huit restans à la fabrique".

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les KIEFFER

Les KIEFFER

Pierre Kieffer dit le Tonnelier, ancêtre de Clément Kieffer, graveur en Pays de Nied, s'est installé à Hestroff où il fut laboureur. Il y est cité tonnelier de Guirlange, point de chute de quelques tyroliens (Martin Hackspill notamment et ses descendants en Bretagne). Les affinités entre cette famille et les tyroliens sembleraient indiquer qu'il fit partie de la première vague migratoire provenant de l'empire austro-hongrois. Il sera aussi cité Pierre l'Allemand en 1713 lors du baptême de son filleul Pierre Lambert. A moins que Pierre se rattache aux Kieffer déjà présents à Boulay dès la fin du 16e…

Son fils Louis est tailleur d’habits et échevin synodal de Hestroff, Sa fille Margareth épousa Jean Nadé, dont deux fils séminaristes. Son fils Noël marié à Anne-Catherine HETTE, dont il eut six enfants, fut maître d’école à Hestroff de 1753 à 1776. Noël s’éteint prématurément à l’âge de 57 ans en 1788.

Des six enfants que Noël eut avec Anne-Catherine Hette, nous retiendrons son fils nommé aussi Noël qui épousa à Hestroff Catherine Hackspill en 1778.

Noël 2 n’enseignera jamais à Hestroff. Il sera, après son mariage, muté successivement à Haute-Vigneulles, Leiding 1790-93. Après la révolution de 1789, on le retrouve à Creutzwald 1796-1802 comme inspecteur des écoles primaires dans le canton de Creutzwald; Secrétaire et greffier de la commune de Bérus, officier public, puis écrivain et fonctionnaire à Berus, à Ittersdorf à partir de 1804 puis à Metzeresch de 1816 à 1818. Il finira par retourner à Ittersdorf dont est originaire sa seconde épouse Christine SCHWARTZ et où il décèdera en 1731 à l’âge de 79 ans…

Avec sa première épouse Hackspill, Noël eut 6 enfants dont Clément né à Haute-Vigneulles qui sera instituteur à Wallerfangen et Sarrelouis et greffier à Bérus. Son premier enfant, Jacques, instituteur lui aussi, naîtra à Beaumarais en 1802, dont Clément Jacques, instituteur, né à Varize en 1834, dont Clément dit graveur en pays de Nied né à le 12 juin 1881 et décédé le 7 février 1964 à Varize.

Inauguration de l’espace Clément Kieffer 21 mai 2006

« Formé à Strasbourg, puis à Dusseldorf, Clément Kieffer n'effectuera qu'un court séjour dans le Montmartre parisien de 1910. Sa véritable inspiration est foncièrement mosellane. Elle niche au hasard des sentiers, des granges, des ciels secrets de ce bout de Lorraine où ses ancêtres étaient venus prendre racine, au XVIIIe siècle. »

« Il a vu poindre la transition, avec l'arrivée de l'industrie. Tout ce qu'il avait connu d'ancestral allait disparaître. Alors il s'est dit: "il faut que je transmette..." «

« On sait trop peu l'étendue de recherches de l'artiste, l'étonnante variété de sa production. Certes le caricaturiste de la Lorraine rurale, le créateur de la Fanchette patoisante, a depuis lurette trouvé son public. Mais peut-être a-t-il masqué le peintre curieux des mouvements de son temps, admirateur de Manet, le dessinateur attaché à minutieusement célébrer son terroir, le graveur avide d'explorer toutes les techniques... Pierre Kieffer garde le souvenir des différents ateliers où son père a pratiqué à partir de son installation à Metz. Rempart du Saulcy, rue d'Asfeld, place de l'Abreuvoir, rue Mazelle... "Même pour travailler, il portait toujours chemise et cravate, sous une blouse blanche. Essayer des techniques, c'était là son plaisir..." Arrêt sur l'anecdote qui amènera Clément Kieffer à détruire une partie de ses toiles, dans les années 40. L'occupant cherche "à impliquer un représentant de l'art lorrain". Le peintre sollicité n'hésite guère. "Je l'ai vu brûler ses grands formats qui étaient trop voyants. Les gravures, il pouvait toujours les cacher dans une armoire..." «

Pierre Kieffer 1928-2006

Fils de Clément, Pierre a légué toutes les œuvres de son père à la commune de Varize qui continuera ainsi à rendre hommage à la multiplicité des talents de son père. Pierre n’a jamais oublié Hestroff, le berceau de la famille Kieffer et désira rappeler qu’une « tradition familiale, heureusement ravivée de génération en génération, permet de situer les Kieffer à Hestroff vers le milieu du XVIIIe siècle. Noël y était instituteur; la famille semble y avoir été fortement implantée. Le fils suivit les traces du père ...Un beau-frère de Kieffer, Joseph Hackspill, s'installe à Haute-Vigneulles comme tailleur...."

Pierre a été inhumé à Metz le 24 novembre 2006. Son patronyme n'a pas été pérennisé à Hestroff, mais ses deux fils Patrice et Jacques et leurs enfants Marie, Suzanne, Benjamin, Laurène, Etienne, Cécile et Agnès cousinent avec les BOTTER, COLBUS-KLEIN, DEPENWEILLER, HACKSPILL, MASSON-DEPENWEILLER et NADé-HUMBERT..

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les BERNARD

Les BERNARD

Arrivés après 1680 du pays messin (environs de Failly), les Bernard sont des vignerons. Leur ancêtre Etienne est attesté vigneron à Hestroff dès 1686. Sa fille aînée épousa Pierre ZABé ou SABé, veuf de Marguerite BRETTNACHER d’Anzeling, tandis que la benjamine se maria avec un BOLZINGER, d’origine tyrolienne (voir les Bolzinger de Metzervisse).

Le patronyme a disparu de l’état-civil de la commune. Maints descendants des Bernard en ce début du 21e siècle à Hestroff, en l’occurrence les BEHEM, COLBUS-KLEIN, GOBY, HACKSPILL-Goby, NADé branches Lecomte, Muller et Pick,

Les ZABé(e) ou SABé

Au départ, les Sabé étaient des vignerons à l'instar des BERNARD avec qui ils ont fait alliance. Les deux familles trouveraient leurs origines dans le pays messin. Pierre Sabé, lors de son premier mariage à Anzeling, est cité originaire de Vigy.

L’origine lointaine des Sabé serait, comme pour les Nadé, ibère.

Le dernier descendant à porter ce patronyme est décédé dans les années 50.

Les derniers descendants connus appartiennent à la famille GOBY-BASSOMPIERRE et HACKSPILL-GOBY.

NB : SABE signifie en espagnol "il sut". C'est également un prénom (contraction de Sabine fêtée le 29 août). Les recherches sur le web n'en sont pas facilitées. 106.000.000 items via Google.

Hestroff après 1700

Nouveaux arrivants après 1700

Après 1700, nous assistons à une deuxième vague migratoire. Aux premiers Tyroliens déjà bien intégrés à la communauté villageoise, s'ajoute une nouvelle génération. Nous connaissons déjà les Hermann, Hackspill, Liser, Springer, Transberg … Ils seront suivis par d'autres tyroliens, des français du Nord, des belges et quelques allemands.

Ignace ALEXANDRE, le précédent curé, vient d'être remplacé par Damien HENWEILLER. Ce dernier a une servante et un valet. Sa mère semble habiter chez lui jusqu'à son décès en 1716.

Thimothée Robert est maître d'école à Hestroff depuis 1696. Son épouse est une Hennequin (voir les Transberg). Son fils François ADAM x Marie GIRARDIN sera lui aussi régent d'école à Hestroff jusqu'en 1758, année où la famille ROBERT cessera d'occuper la scène... Pas tout à fait...! Le petit-fils de Timothée, devenu Sieur ROBERT de HESSELN, professeur en langue allemande, inspecteur des élèves de l'école royale militaire de Paris, fera don d'un orgue à l'église de Hestroff en 1771 (voir précédemment sous les ROBERT).
Viennent s'ajouter aux familles déjà nommées précédemment les KETZINGER, FONCIN et Cie.

Hestroff après 1700 - les FONCIN

Claude FONCIN

Claude Foncin, laboureur, dont la mère est originaire de Villers-la-Montagne près de Longwy, est né à Chémery où son père Arnould dit le Jeune est cité censier du château de Chémery en 1696. Claude cité aussi Fonsain ou Fonsing, est l'ancêtre du grand géographe Pierre Foncin qui donna son nom à une rue et à un lycée à Paris. Ce même Pierre Foncin qui n'eut aucune descendance (deux filles restées célibataires) était en possession de presque la moitié de la presqu'île de Saint-Tropez, commune qui hérita de la totalité de ses biens (source : Jean-François FONCIN, neuropsychiatre à Paris).

A Hestroff, Claude, dont la famille est originaire de la Lorraine belge (Arlon-Virton) se rapproche des tyroliens, notamment des Liser, Springer et Hackspill.

Claude Foncin n'a aucune descendance sur Hestroff sauf quelques lointains cousins dont les CAUDY, BRABANT-FONCIN, NADé-HUMBERT et Denis MATHIS, le maire actuel.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - Les SPRINGER

Les SPRINGER

Jean Henry Springer se marie en 1694 à l'âge de 32 ans avec Marie-Catherine Nadé, âgée seulement de 14 ans. Sont témoins au mariage les beaux-pères respectifs Nicolas et Hugo.
Les Springer ou Sprenger semblent être eux aussi d'origine tyrolienne au vu de leurs affinités et alliances avec les autres tyroliens en place à Hestroff fin du 17e. Le premier Springer, Jean Henry ou Hugues, fut tonnelier.

Les derniers Springer connus à Hestroff étaient Adam et Joséphine (Anda & Phiné), tous deux restés célibataires. Leur maison située dans l'impasse m'Harainville fut détruite en 1939 par l'armée française qui y installa un bunker. Frère et soeur furent relogés par la commune après 1945. Ils moururent, indigents, à l’hospice Saint-Nicolas de Metz.

Nombreuse descendance sur Hestroff : voir les familles BAUSCH, COLBUS, les HACKSPIll de Bretagne, KETZINGER, NADé, PICK.
