Hestroff et ses habitants après 1680 - le curé et le tabellion

C'est dans l'ordre chronologique des registres paroissiaux que nous allons évoquer très démocratiquement les âmes ayant peuplé la paroisse de Hestroff à la fin du 17e. L’acteur principal en étant le curé, attardons-nous sur Ignace Alexandre, curé de Hestroff et archiprêtre de Kédange jusqu’au tout début du 18e.

Ignace ALEXANDRE

Ignace était riche à l'instar de ses prédécesseurs (Bernard Metzinger 1580, Jacques Nuntius 1624, Hugoni Domini 1631, Jacques Confin +1640, Pierre Fabry 1640-1644, Henry Grinspan 1644-1679). Principal censier de l'Abbaye de Villers Bettnach, après le tabellion DILANGE et avant la famille NADé, Ignace est présent à Hestroff au moins depuis janvier 1680, début de nos registres paroissiaux.

Ignace, lors des premiers actes de baptême, de mariage et de décès, ne fait pas signer les principaux intéressés, nous privant ainsi d’une information élémentaire à une époque où très peu de personnes étaient lettrées suite au chaos généré par les affres de la guerre. Il semble ne pas non plus répercuter les décès quand le défunt n'eut pas l'extrême onction, ni les naissances quand s’ensuivait mort sans baptême.

Au début du 18e, Ignace s'absente souvent. Il brigue en effet l'archiprêtré de Thionville, plus exactement la paroisse Saint-Maximim à Thionville où il terminera son parcours. Conséquence, les paroissiens subissent un défilement permanent de curés ou de moines provenant des environs.

Ignace était francophone et certainement francophile. Il débarque dans un village bilingue depuis la nuit des temps (on y parle encore à l'aube du 21e un platt trouvant ses sources dans la vieille langue des Carolingiens, teintée aussi de roman, de yiddisch et de tyrolien certainement - étude restant à réaliser -).
Si sous sa plume les Steinmetzer, Altmeyer, Schumacher, Schwarz et autres sont devenus nos Masson, Vieuxmaire, Cordonnier et LeNoir, il rencontra sûrement quelques problèmes avec ses nouveaux paroissiens venus du Tyrol, qui, s'ils s'intégraient parfaitement à leur nouvelle patrie, n'étaient peut-être pas enclins à porter un nom autre que celui que leurs pères leur avaient légué (voir les différentes graphies des Hackspill, Ketzinger, etc...).

Sieur Dilange et Millot NANCÿ

Si Ignace Alexandre était aisé, le personnage le plus riche était néanmoins Millot Nancÿ, fils de bourgeois de Nancy, sergent de la prévôté de Freistroff qui succéda à Sieur DILANGE comme notaire royal à Hestroff. Nancÿ eut avec Barbe WEBER son épouse, alliée de l'ancien tabellion DILANGE, sept enfants nés à Hestroff entre 1680 et 1696, date à laquelle la famille quitte la paroisse.

Hestroff et ses habitants après 1680 - Les NADé

Jean Nadé, laboureur, veuf de Marguerite FERINGER, rend l'âme en juin 1680 à l'âge de soixante ans après avoir marié son fils Hugo cinq mois plus tôt (ce mariage, figurant en 2e page des tout premiers registres paroissiaux de Hestroff, était en fait le premier acte retranscris par Ignace ALEXANDRE, curé de la paroisse éponyme). Jean eut le privilège, ainsi que son fils Hugo 30 ans après, d'être " inhumé dans l'église".

Principal censier de l'abbaye de Villers-Bettnach après le tabellion Dilange et le curé, Jean, le plus gros laboureur de Hestroff, fait partie des acteurs principaux de la paroisse. Devenu le coq du village, « Sieur Nadé », y est attesté depuis le pied terrier de 1654 quand il ne possédait encore presque rien… Il fit son chemin et en 1676 comme le prouve un procès, tenu à Vaudrevange, l'opposant à Charles de Bretagne, abbé commendataire de ladite abbaye.

Jean Nadé, pourtant, n’est pas du cru. Il fait partie des premiers "colons" venus s'installer à Hestroff après la Guerre de Trente Ans. Né vers 1620, probablement dans le pays messin (un certain Jean Nadé s'est marié à Metz, paroisse de Saint-Victor en 1640). Ses origines plus lointaines – ibères selon les légendes familiales - font toujours l’objet de recherches.

Notre riche laboureur, veuf d’une femme bien de chez nous, s’est retrouvé avec des filles à marier et des fils à établir. Il marie son fils aîné Hugo en 1680 à une descendante de Mathias ALBRECHT, propriétaire nanti, cité maire de Hestroff en 1626. Sa fille Barbe épouse un meunier, garçon du terroir. Ses autres filles, les jeunes hommes du pays n’étant pas légion, se marient avec des tyroliens tels les Hermann, Ketzinger et Springer, tout comme vingt ans plus tard ses petites-filles épouseront les enfants des premiers immigrants. Son fils André, qui avait épousé à Varize une veuve, quitte Hestroff. Le couple s’installe à Bockange où André sera cité une dernière fois en 1698. Au delà de cette date il laissera une veuve.

La quasi totalité des habitants de Hestroff de vieille souche descendent de Jean Nadé et Marguerite Féringer.

Vers 1950, il y eut cinq branches différentes à Hestroff. Aucune branche ne savait comment elle cousinait avec les autres. En 2006, il n’y a plus que 3 porteurs de ce nom émanant de trois branches différentes ayant comme dénominateur commun le couple Pierre Nadé °1730 x Marguerite MOUSELER de Gomelange.

NB : NADE signifiait "personne" en espagnol (nadé qui est devenu nadié) et aujourd'hui encore c'est le verbe nager à la 3e personne du singulier "il nagea". C'est également un prénom slave de plus en plus utilisé à l'ouest de l'Europe. Patronyme en Russie au 15e avec variante Nadechka. A l'instar des SABE, les recherches sur le web n'en sont pas facilitées. 6.110.000 items via Google fin 2008, dont beaucoup d'acronymes.

Hestroff et ses habitants après 1680 - les CORDONNIER/SCHUMACHER

Marcus/Marx/Marens CORDONNIER/SCHUMACHER

Marcus Cordonnier (les SCHUMACHER de Gomelange ?) décède en 1681 à l'âge de soixante dix ou douze ans trois jours après son jeune beau-fils Benoît HACKSPILL âgé quand à lui de vingt-neuf ans.
La famille Cordonnier est une des plus anciennes de Hestroff. Le patronyme n'a pas été pérennisé mais nombre de vieilles familles hestroffoises en sont des descendants via les femmes ayant épousé des tyroliens.

ClaudeTÜPPENWEILLER, lors de son mariage avec Madeleine CHARON, beau-frère de Hugo NADé, est cité marguillier à Hestroff en 1682. Son père Jacques était déjà maître d'école à Vaudreching. En 1696, Claude sera cité absent au service de sa Majesté. Son fils Ignace, né exactement 9 mois moins un jour après son mariage, aura une longue descendance sur Hestroff encore présente de nos jours. Le patronyme ayant évolué au cours du temps c'est sous DEPENWEILLER que vous les reconnaîtrez. Le patronyme, théoriquement, dériverait du toponyme Tüppenweiller, commune située en Sarre au nord de Sarrelouis. Ce qui fait de Claude un vrai lorrain d'origine.

Peu d’alliance avec les tyroliens. Descendent de Claude les porteurs de son patronyme certes mais aussi CASARA, GOBY, FREY-OTT, MASSON-DEPENWEILLER et SCHNEIDER (Edmond).

Hestroff et ses habitants après 1680 - les CHARRON/WAGNER

Le couple Jacob CHARON/WAGNER laboureur x Marguerite CLEMENT/CLAM/LUTZ dont la fille Elisabeth épousa en janvier 1680 Hugo Nadé, dont la fille Madeleine se maria en 1682 avec Claude Tüppenweiler, dont le fils Mathias est déjà engagé avec Catherine FRANCK, etc... , appartient aux plus anciennes familles de Hestroff et du pays de Nied. La présence de cette famille, attestée avant la Guerre de Trente Ans par divers actes notariés, descendrait de Mathias ALBRECHT, maire de Hestroff en 1626 selon le pied terrier. Leurs petits-enfants se sont croisés avec les enfants des immigrés tyroliens.

Les Charon/Wagner sont les ancêtres de toutes les familles de vieille souche telles COLBUS, DEPENWEILLER, GOBY, HACKSPILL, KETZINGER, NADé et bien d'autres...

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les MASSON/STEINMETZER

Ouvrons une parenthèse sur la famille MASSON ou STEINMETZER présente à Hestroff avant la Guerre de Trente Ans mais dont le patronyme disparaît dès le 19e. Jean Masson est cité à Hestroff échevin de justice de l'abbaye de Villers-Bettnach et artisan en 1681. A l'aube du 21e, il faudra chercher ses descendants parmi les FRIDRICI, les KIEN-FANTIN, les NADé.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les CAUDY

Estienne CAUDY, cité en 1693 parrain de Estienne LIGNIER, signe à cette occasion « Estienne COUTY parin».
De divers actes, nous savons qu’Etienne était meunier à Edling au moins depuis 1683. 12 enfants connus.

Une légende familiale lui prête des origines irlandaises (cousin de Buffalo Bill ?).

Son épouse s’appellait SCHREINER ou REIMERINGER. Rien sur ses origines non plus mais probablement une autochtone en prêtant attention à certains documents. En 1698, lors d'un remembrement il est dit qu'Etienne possède un pastural appelé Schreinerparch...

Estienne a une grande descendance dans le triangle Anzeling-Hestroff-Hobling.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les OBRY/LHUILLIER/ULRICH

Les OBRY

ou encore ULRIG, ULRICH, ULLRIC, HUILLIER, LHUILLIER descendent de Marx Obry né vers 1580. Cette famille bien représentée dans les pieds terriers de Hestroff semble être aussi ancienne que les Wagner/Charon. En 1683 décède Dominique, né vers 1608, père de Hugo à ce moment là maire de Hestroff. Aucune descendance connue au 21e siècle sur Hestroff. Le nom a périclité rapidement dès la fin du 18e.

Au fur et à mesure des alliances avec les autochtones, montent sur les planches les LIZER, les SPRINGER, les HERMANN, des familles tyroliennes déjà en place avant 1680.

Les LIZER/ LESER

Les Liser, Lizer ou Leser du Tyrol, dont le patronyme n'a pas été pérennisé sur Hestroff, seraient venus en même temps que les Hackspill. D'abord à Holving (est mosellan), où ils se sont installés pour en reconstruire l'église avec leurs cousins Hackspill, puis à Hestroff où nous rencontrons Jean Wilhelm né vers 1669, Jean Jacques né vers 1669, Barthélémy, maître couvreur, tous cousins ou frères de Maurice LESER de Holving.

Le patronyme disparaît de Hestroff dès la fin du 18e. Les descendants en ce début du 21e se trouvent au sein des familles COLBUS, BAUSCH, BOTTER, HACKSPILL, KETZINGER et NADé toutes branches confondues.

Les SPRINGER

Jean Henry Springer se marie en 1694 à l'âge de 32 ans avec Marie-Catherine Nadé, âgée seulement de 14 ans. Sont témoins au mariage les beaux-pères respectifs Nicolas et Hugo.
Les Springer ou Sprenger semblent être eux aussi d'origine tyrolienne au vu de leurs affinités et alliances avec les autres tyroliens en place à Hestroff fin du 17e. Le premier Springer, Jean Henry ou Hugues, fut tonnelier.

Les derniers Springer connus à Hestroff étaient Adam et Joséphine (Anda & Phiné), tous deux restés célibataires. Leur maison située dans l'impasse m'Harainville fut détruite en 1939 par l'armée française qui y installa un bunker. Frère et soeur furent relogés par la commune après 1945. Ils moururent, indigents, à l’hospice Saint-Nicolas de Metz.

Les HERMANN

Aussi appelés GERMAN, il n'y a guère que les familles COLBUS, KLEIN et les NAdé, branches Muller, de Boni et Pick, qui peuvent revendiquer leur appartenance à cette lignée aussi tyrolienne.
On sait peu de choses sur les Hermann. Le plus ancien était maçon à l'instar des premiers Hackspill. Jean Hermann, époux d’Elisabeth NADé, mourut dans la plus grande pauvreté.

Hestroff et ses habitants vers 1680 - les ROBERT

Les ROBERT

Dominique ROBERT est cité en 1683 beau-frère de Ignace ALEXANDRE alors curé de Hestroff et archiprêtre de Kédange. Il demeure avec son épouse Marie ALEXANDRE au presbytère depuis 1680. Neuf enfants connus dont Jean, avocat au Parlement de Metz, Jean-François, notaire royal, baillage de Thionville et Ignace, marchand cirier à Thionville.

Les ROBERT semblent être originaires de Budange, paroisse de Kédange. Probablement un autre frère de Dominique, Thimothée, dont l'épouse est une HENNEQUIN de Kédange, deviendra maître d'école à Hestroff en 1696 quand Claude TÜPPENWEILLER quitta cette fonction. Thimothée meurt en 1726 à Metz où il s’était rendu pour se soigner. Son grand ami, Damien HENWEILLER, le curé de Hestroff, écrira dans les registres paroissiaux que « Le onzième juin de l'année 1726 est décédé Thimothée ROBERT, régent d'école à Hestroff depuis trente ans, âgé de cinquante ans munis des sacrements de la Sainte Eglise, et cela dans l'hôpital Saint-Georges où il est allé se faire traitter d'une fâcheuse incommodité qui luy était survenue à une jambe. Il y est mort et enterré. Lequel a donné et légué par testament à l'église de Hestroff 14 écus pour avoir une messe annuelle au mois de novembre. La moitié de la rente sera pour Monsieur le Curé et l'autre pour la fabrique».

Son fils François-Adam, né à Hestroff en mai 1702, se marie et meurt dans sa paroisse d’origine en 1776. Il y fut notamment maître d’école de 1740 à 1749 où il cotoyait le nouveau curé de la paroisse Jean Antoine MÜLLER. Son épouse Marie GIRARDIN, originaire de Vaudreching, lui donna 8 enfants, dont Mathias ou Mathieu qui serait né à Faulquement en 1731. Math. ROBERT de HESSELN fut annobli par Louis XV, dont il est devenu le géographe. Professeur d’allemand à Paris à l'Ecole royale militaire, de HESSELN est l’auteur du premier Dictionnaire universel de la France en 1771. En 1786, il publia un système de quadrillage de la France hiérarchisé en carrés emboîtés par groupes de 9 qui servit pour réaliser les 83 premiers départements français sous la Révolution. Il réalisa bien d'autres études dont la liste serait fastidieuse.

En 1773, l’abbé Müller écrira dans les registres paroissiaux :

« Monsieur Robert de Hesseln, né du Sieur François Adam Robert, ancien maître d'école de cette paroisse, et de Marie Girardin son épouse, actuellement demeurant et établi à Paris, ci devant Professeur en langue allemande et Inspecteur de Messieurs les élèves de l'Ecole Royale militaire de Paris et auteur du dictionnaire universel de France, se sentant disposé de contribuer à augmenter…qui consistait en une belle et bonne orgue proportionnée à l'église, mais qu'il ne nous la ferait tenir que préalablement il en soit informé par moi Curé, soussigné, avec les Paroissiens nous l'acceptassions en conséquence.
J'ai requis le consentement de la saine partie de cette Communauté et l'ayant obtenu, j'ai demandé audit Robert, en luy témoignant notre juste reconnaissance, que nous souhaitons transmettre à tous nos successeurs pour un don aussi précieux que nous certifions avoir reçu de Paris dudit Bienfaiteur en offrant nos voeux au Seigneur pour son bien-être et en mettant notre confiance en Dieu, qui comme nous (l') espérons fournira les moyens à cette communauté pour l'entretien de cet orgue et le payement d'un organiste»
A Hestroff ce dix sept juin mille sept cent soixante treize.
A. Müller, curé de Hestroff et archiprêtre de Kédange.

« La dite orgue a été montée et mise d'accord par le Sieur Barthélémy Chevreux (Barthélémy Chevreux est admodiateur de l’abbaye de Bouzonville, organiste. Il a épousé Catherine ROBERT à Château-Rouge le 18 mai 1759), facteur d'orgue demeurant à Bouzonville, et a été touchée pour la première fois à la fête de la Pentecôte de l'an 1772 et depuis continue d'être touchée par Jean Antoine fils de Noêl Kieffer, maître d'école de cette paroisse, qui a appris à la toucher chez le vénérable Bernard, Maître organiste à Villers-Bettnach".

Le dernier Robert décède en 1776. Aucune descendance sur Hestroff. François-Adam Robert n’a même pas été inhumé dans l’église où trônent les orgues offertes par son fils..., ce privilège étant définitivement aboli.
